Sprain getting worse not better?

Sara M asked:

I, being the clumsy teen I am, fell down some stairs (some being a bit of an understatement, there was like, a whole flight of them) and sprained my ankle. I didn’t go to the doctor ’cause my dad knows all sorts of things ’bout injuries and stuff from experience.

I thought I’d get better with rest and an ACE bandage but nooooo…
The pain has spread from around my ankle and under my foot near the arch to up the left side of my calf, around my knee and up half the left side of my thigh.

Silly me knows that a doctor would be a fabulous thing to go to but…whops! no insureance ._.
Does anyone know if Nassau University Medical Center will take care of me? (heh, the wonders of Long Island) Seeing as I said (well typed) Nassau, its obvious I live there-Roslyn Hts-to be exact. If they dont could someone reccomend a near by hospital that wont mind the lack of insurance?
hmm, I fell about a week and a half ago? Theres not really brusing but its been swollen for a while….but now that i think of it…the back of my ankle was kind of bruised…there was a little discoloration…

Actually you could of broken it. Thats what I think happened.
If the Nassau University medical center can’t take care of you than they could possibly tell you a place where the lack of insurance won’t affect you to much.

    Answer mine?

How long ago did you fall? Is there any bruising? ER’s at hospitals can’t deny you care due to lack of insurance, however it’s an expensive route to go. Call around and see if you can find an urgent care center or an orthopedic doctor that will take payments on the bill.
Sprains can take a long time to heal, but a fracture may need intervention from the orthopedic doctor. Unfortunately the only way to really tell fracture from sprain is with an xray. Good luck.

The county hospital has programs for people with no insurance or look for a free clinic in your area.
