Should I get my lawyer?

Ashley F asked:

I am currently in Morocco and my luggage has been lost by the airport. I had connecting flights in london and in Amsterdam before I took Royal Air Maroc (the airline i filed with). They said all they were waiting for to give me my money was one last check in london and amsterdam and an answer stating that they do not have my luggage. I waited for over a week and decided to make the calls myself. Amsterdam never got any such message stating that royal air maroc was waiting for a reply, so they did at that moment and london has already confirmed with me that they did not have my luggage. When i called the airport to tell them this they told me i had no business doing that and they still have not received a response from either airlines. They told me this takes time and they will contact me as soon as they get a response as to whether or not my luggage is absolutely lost and for me to collect my money. Is there some type of law they’re violating? Should I contact my lawyer and insurance company? It’s been over a month and I already made my claim on the 21st day.

One of the situations where you say “I shouldn’t have messed with them”. Contact with your lawyer, you don’t have to lose anything more.

Contact CondeNet (Conde Nast magazine). I read an article recently that dealt with just this type of situation. They should be able to help you.

Since you crossed many countries on your flight, and they each have their own law, I would recommend you see an attorney. For them to tell you that you should not check where your own luggage is, is wrong! Contact your attorney with whatever paperwork you have and see if he can hurry up the claims process.

Yes sounds like you could use a lawyer for the name Royal Air Maroc alone.

I had a problem with lost luggage last year. I got the run around at the Marrakech airport. They told me several times that British Airways located the luggage and it would be on the next flight. I stayed in Marrakech for 4 days before going to my original destination. I believe most of the problem is that the airport people don’t care. You can call a hundred times and are fortunate if they answer it once, then they won’t look for your luggage (should be put in a database, but they put them in a large piled up room), or they will tell you it’s there you come and look yourself. I finally got one suitcase after 9 days, and finally when I was leaving we dropped by the luggage office to see if the other one had arrived. It was about 6 in the morning, the man was asleep with his feet up on the desk, he wouldn’t even answer the phone when we called a half- dozen times before. They will tell you they will call when it arrives, but they’ll never do it. A Marrakech taxi driver told us a story about waiting for his suitcase for nearly 3 months, finally he went to the airport and searched, it was in that room and they never bothered to call. There is a website for Morocco airports .
