Did I just get screwed over?

I’ve got to catch a flight on Friday, and because I don’t have a car, I’ve booked a cab to take me there.
The drive is just a hair over 18 miles and takes 27 minutes, according to Mapquest… and it will be costing me $34.
That seems like an awful lot to me. I’ve only ridden in a cab two times before and I don’t remember how much it was, but this seems pretty pricey for such a short drive.
I know that gas, cars, insurance, and employee salaries are expensive. I also know that they have to drive over to pick me up, and then back from the airport to their station. But still, it seems like a lot.
So did I get screwed over? How much do you think it should cost? (I live in Michigan’s UP, not like Detroit or New York or anything.)

Yay! I love UP! IT’s probably because cabs are not often used up there. More expensive due to less need for them. Try to get a friend to drive ya.

Your first mistake is trusting Mapquest. It is rarely accurate. It probably won’t cost you that much…but prices have gone up of course, because of gas.

No, you didn’t get screwed over. That’s pretty good for that much distance you’re going.

It would cost the equivalent of that for about 5 miles in parts of the UK

That seems about right. Cabs charge about $2 or $2.50 just to plop your behind in the seat, then it’s usually from $1.50-$2.00 a mile.
You’re not getting screwed over at all.

That is a cheap cab fare. That was more than Fare. That cab fare should have been between $38.25 and $43.25 and average fare. you got a great deal you got charged $1.88 @ mile you didn’t get charged a airport gate fee. Great deal but i Don’t know what the drivers certificate of liabilty is for the company.
