Is there an insurance agency that will cover my trip should my husband be deployed to Afghanistan?

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
Gaby asked:

It’s up in the air and it looks like my husband will not be deploying …however there’s about a 20% chance he could. If he does is there a travel insurance company that would refund the price of my air fare? I really want to see my friends as I’ve been depressed since we got stationed here in NC. I’m from Hawaii and it’s too expensive for me to fly home. My friends are coming on a business trip to AL and I could see them for five days. However I do not want to miss my husband’s last five days home should he deploy. I would hate to loose the cost of my air fare. I can not book the trip if I don’t have a way to recoup my cost should there be a change in my husband’s deployment. Any help or ideas? Thanks.

Traveling around a military schedule?

My husband and I are planning on going on a cruise in November, approx. 3 weeks after he is SUPPOSED to get back from overseas on a deployment. The fear we have is that if his mission gets extended, and we are not able to go (which has happened to other units that are over there with his unit right now). We are weary of travel insurances, as they normally do not cover this. Does anyone know if Carnival will give us a credit for our cruise for us to go later on? Also, what about airlines (we will most likely fly Delta)? If we don’t get refundable tickets, is there a way to turn them into a credit, kind of like Southwest does? I think we can just get a hold on a hotel room but not be obligated to pay unless we cancel less than 24 hours before we are supposed to stay. Anyone with any experience in this?

What if I go into labor on the plane?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009
himcrucified asked:

Okay, first of all PLEASE just trust me that I am allowed and REQUIRED to fly at 36 weeks along to a birthing facility. I live in the Bush of Alaska in a town with no hospital and my doctor will literally stick me on the plane if I don’t go willingly. They aren’t set up for emergencies here and insurance pays for the ticket. I’m going to Ohio which is 12 hours of flying with the longest being a 7 hour flight and PLEASE don’t tell me to go to Anchorage unless you have the $ for a 42 day hotel stay. Folks are in Ohio. :) My question is, hypothetically if I would go into labor in the air, then what? Has anybody birthed on the way to the hospital who could share insight or tips? I just want to be prepared for anything.
I HAVE to go on the plane. Or would YOU just pop out your first at home with no midwife or doctor or anything? What if I need a C section?
It’s 42 days because I have to be out of here legally by my 36th week. I didn’t want to fly back the day she’s born and had to book tickets in case I go overdue too. They do this all the time actually…Every woman who gets pregnant here is kicked off the island at 36 weeks. I don’t know about 30 days of night. It’s deadliest catch though…Dutch Harbor. I know God’s got it, I am just entertaining the scenario of what ifs…I can’t leave any earlier actually because I am 35 weeks. I leave mothers day. I didn’t move here until recently and my insurance only kicked in from our new job April 1st. I know, complicated huh?
There actually is NO midwife! It’s an island of a couple thousand people. There is no hospital just a clinic.

to have or not to have the baby abroad?

Chang K asked:

ok,i already had a Csection with my 1st born child & it costs $20k..we want to get pregnant again but having another Csection is a possibility, since i just had a csection 15mos ago,our insurance wont cover another csection not until 2010..im from philippines,im thinking that if ill get pregnant again,i want to go back there when ill be on my 8th month and give birth there, and possibly stay another month after the birth..Csection in the philippines is around $600..so even if my husband,i and our baby will fly,all our expenses would still be cheaper than having a baby here in US and have a $20K hospital bill..i want to hear any opinion on this..what age is allowed for a baby to be on the plane, flight is about 17hrs..
our insurance paid 95% of the 20K,they’re not going to cover another one until 2010
