Frankly…I spend 2/3 of the year travelling on business, and insurance is something I really do not want to get surprises with.
My suggestion is to call a traditional travel agent and ask him/her to process your travel insurance through their GDS (automated online system). They will be able to offer you the insurance coverage your need, according to your length of stay, destination, travel pattern etc…and insurance is, generally, not expensive.
Other alternative, I would suggest to contact a travel insurance broker that can give you the specific information you need, prior to processing your insurance online or off-line.
By the way, on flights and hotels you are covered by their own insurance policies (unless you plan a trip to a “exotic” destination). However it is advisable to cover lost/damaged luggage and flight delays/connections missed, with additional insurance.
When it comes to the accommodation (again, it depends on your destination), I would just make sure that I have proper medical insurance (i.e. a medical insurance that is valid in the destination I travel to).
TravelEx is probably one of the best plans for this. For what it seems you are looking for, try the TravelLite Policy. It is less expensive than the other options and will cover your flight delays, luggage, and lodging.
