a very strange lawsuit coming?

Friday, March 27th, 2009
pheggie101 asked:

My ex wife was at her boyfriends in March. We still are not sure of what exactly happened but the story is they put my 12 year old on a ATV without a helmet. She panicked and hit a tree at a high rate of speed. she was unconcious and med flighted to a hospital. She had severe head trauma, broken facial bones and the worst is she lost vision in one eye for life. After she was released i talked to several attorneys. My ex was adamant that it was a accident and gods will and did not want me to take legal action. well i did and hired a law firm to protect my daughter. we have gotten as far as gathering info and dealing with a insurance comapny. Now suddenly yesterday the attorneys recieved a letter (she married the guy) that they are representing her (myex) and that they should have control over any and all settlements with the new husbands ins company. I was told she cant cause she may be a potential witness or defendant. my lawyers also used the word “nuts” in her doing this…..help!

What do I need to know about moving to West Hollywood?

Friday, March 27th, 2009
Whitney asked:

I’ve settled on West Hollywood as my ideal place to live when I move to LA at the end of the summer.

Before you write in telling me how crappy LA is and be all negative, let me say this: I know LA isn’t a great place to live. I know there is traffic and smog and creepy ass people and gangs (that being said I lived in Oklahoma City which has the largest gang population in the country next to LA and it wasn’t that bad plus it’s a complete sewer system and I can’t imagine LA being anything close to OKC even with all the negative stuff I’ve read about it).

I’m going there to be an actress. I’m NOT going there to be famous, or to get rich and all that BS. I know it’s pretty much a pipe dream and the odds of making it is rare. I have actually studied acting and film for a long time. It’s my passion and I’m damn good at it and the only reason I want to move to LA is because that’s where a majority of the work is. I could be happy having to work as a waitress and living in a crappy apartment if it meant I could work towards being an actor. I know about all the scams and all the stuff that happens in the industry. I’m a grown adult and god forbid, I’ve been able to survive on my own for a while now. I’m confident I can do it in LA.

I have a lot of money saved up, money set aside for emergency flights home, car problems, and enough to live on completely for about a year, and I will be moving with no debt. My car is paid off and my parents agreed to pay my insurance and cell phone. All I need to worry about is rent, gas, food, and utilities. I plan on finding an apartment or house with a roommate or two.

All that being said, I just want to know about West Hollywood. From what I’ve read it’s a generally safe area and it’s close to a lot of stuff, with lots of young people.

But I want to hear from people who have lived there, not just statistics from random websites and stupid negative people. Tell me about what it’s like to live there. What are the great things about living there? What are the sucky things? What are the people like? How easy is it to find apartments (I’ve read LA is full of apartments and its not hard to find one like it would be in places like NYC). How much will car insurance run me? How much is gas up there on average? Is WeHo an ideal place to be for someone in the entertainment industry?
I don’t mind people thinking I’m gay. To me that’s like people thinking I’m black. It’s irrelevant. Plus, I love my gays and it’s actually appealing to me to be around them. And there’s only 120,000 actors in SAG so as far as I’m concerned there’s only 120,000 REAL actors in LA
To answer the second person’s question, by the time I move I plan on having about $50,000 saved, but I will also be working. That money is just to get me going and through rough patches if I lose my job or something.
Oh! and I’ve been looking at a lot of roommate sites and there’s lots of pretty nice places with people seeking roommates asking about $1200 all bills paid. That is ideal for me.
and to add another thing. I am from a very wealthy, expensive part of Dallas where a 1-bedroom will run you about $1000 - 1500, so nothing about the pricing of LA shocks me.

Any ideas on getting change fee waived?

Thursday, March 26th, 2009
Kylla A asked:

We booked roundtrip tickets (Northwest) back in June, for February 2009. We did buy trip insurance to cover us incase of any illness, family death, etc. However, we just found out this week that my husband’s company is having it’s annual shareholder’s meeting (required for all shareholders/spouses) is being held a week later than usual- and lands right in the midst of our vacation. I called the airline to see if we could switch to the same flights, a week earlier (which, are in fact cheaper tickets than the ones we have now), and was told we woudl have to pay a change fee that is actually more costly than the tickets themselves.

I feel that this is ridiculous- there is NO way that changing something this small, 7 months in advance, is costing the airline anything.

Any ideas on how to get this “change fee” waived, or a refund (and then I would just re-book for the desired date)?
Change fees were waived. Thank you for your thoughts (on husband’s company helping out). NO thank you for those of you calling me “cheap”, or insinuating that I am stupid, when I was given no other ticket option, and don’t know whole story. Obviously, not doing things on the “cheap” if I am actually insuring things.

snapping hip syndrome.psoas release surgery good or bad idea?

Thursday, March 26th, 2009
purple polarbear asked:

Sorry in advance. This one is a bit extensive. a lot of questions and issues. Thank you for your time.

I am in the United States Navy and (unfortunately) we don’t have the best medical care. I started having pain/snapping/grinding in my left hip August 2006. I thought it was muscle pain from overuse and didn’t go to medical to get treated for it. Finally, in January 2007, I decided to go and get it checked out. They took x-rays and didn’t find anything, so they gave me Motrin and sent me on my way. The pain continued and worsened so I went back to get it checked out June 2007. They took new x-rays and compared them to the x-rays from January and noticed a possible “calcium buildup” which they referred to as “callusing” on the interior part of the femur. Which they thought may have been a small fracture that the first x-rays didn’t catch and over time had calcified. But, being on a ship, the doctors aren’t really specially trained to read the x-rays so they put me on crutches and sent me to the local Naval hospital Balboa for a second opinion on the “lump”. At Balboa, they told me that “the bump was not convincing enough.” and completely ruled out that it was the source of the problem or that it was even an issue at all and took me off the crutches.

I began physical therapy (but in the military, you don’t get appointments right away. I waited weeks in between all of my appointments.) I attended 2 sessions and was then sent on a seven month deployment in November 2007. They were obviously somehow convinced that I could treat myself while away. Keep in mind that there are no physical therapist on board. I did the stretches and exercises that I could but had to deal with the lack of equipment available. So, I spent everyday guessing what I should be doing to fix my hip. Also, there is 8 flights of “stairs” (which are really more like ladders) from my berthing (living quarters) to my work space. So, you can only imagine how many stairs I was climbing on a daily basis. So, needless to say, it was not any better when I got back from deployment.

We got back June 2008 and I made the soonest appointment with the major joint orthopedic specialist that I could get. It was a month wait. I seen him July 2008 and restarted physical therapy at the end of July. I was designated “not fit for shipboard duty” and have been put on shore duty (working in an office on shore not on a ship) until February 2009. It is now September and I just got reevaluated again and they said that my strength is increasing but my symptoms are not changing at all and would like to try surgery. They said that the cortisone shot was only a temporary pain relief. And would mask the pain rather that get rid of it completely.

This is the information that I have found online:
“Recurrence of snapping, weakness, and numbness were the most common complications of surgery for internal snapping hip, and some patients required further surgery”
and
“Most do not do well after this surgery.”
So, I have been rather discouraged to elect this surgery option.
I can’t find many positive statistics about this.
And finally, the questions:
1. Is there a website or does anyone know of statistics or success rates and helpful information of the psoas release surgery?
2. Do I have any other options?
3. I REALLY REALLY REALLY do NOT want Naval doctors operating on me. If I do elect the surgery, how can I go about finding and being operated on by a civilian doctor of my choice without having to pay out of my pocket and using my Tricare medical insurance from the Navy?
4. If I elect not to do the surgery, can they kick me out and not give me benefits (G.I. bill etc.)?

Any good information is helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you for your input.
There are actually three kinds of snapping hip…external (which is with the ‘IT’ band that you referred to) internal (psoas) and Intra-articular (labral tears and such). I have the internal one that the iliopsoas tendon ’snaps’ across the femoral head or lesser trochanter.
http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/2004/0104/meislin.htm

I am not convinced that I should go the surgery route yet either since I have only been to 2 sessions of PT before deployment and 7 sessions after. Which is a total of 9 sessions. I thought that it would take longer to be able to strengthen as well.

At Physical Therapy, I start with a 10 min warm up on the elliptical. Then, I stretch. And then I strengthen muscles. mainly, but not limited to, glutes. I also use therabands, steps, throwing ball at trampoline and catching while standing on left leg only, squats, therapy ball, leg lifts, small weights and also foam roller for IT band. then I ice it.
Thank you for all your help! :) Oops…left out an important part…before deployment, I had an Arthrogram done where they ruled out labral tear.

Did I just get screwed over?

Thursday, March 26th, 2009
Rat asked:

I’ve got to catch a flight on Friday, and because I don’t have a car, I’ve booked a cab to take me there.

The drive is just a hair over 18 miles and takes 27 minutes, according to Mapquest… and it will be costing me $34.

That seems like an awful lot to me. I’ve only ridden in a cab two times before and I don’t remember how much it was, but this seems pretty pricey for such a short drive.

I know that gas, cars, insurance, and employee salaries are expensive. I also know that they have to drive over to pick me up, and then back from the airport to their station. But still, it seems like a lot.

So did I get screwed over? How much do you think it should cost? (I live in Michigan’s UP, not like Detroit or New York or anything.)

How do I develop discipline?

laughing_is_easy asked:

Somewhat embarassed by my own question, I never had scheduled chores to do.My room was always cleaned up by my mother, and dishes, trash, etc.I think, were done with a “it’s easier to do it yourself” attitude, possibly. I was basically not responsible for much of anything, however..instead of asking for something for nothing, I would get work after school to save up for a car, etc…(so I’m not a TOTAL FLAKE! LOL.
To FF all of my life the chores, profesionally or at home, have been taken care of via staff, fellow employee’s, as this was part of their job description. Flights, rental cars, propsals, etc…all done for me.I had not bought a car in 22yrs, or paid insurance, or mortgage All I had to do was ‘waltz’ in, smiling, clothes clean and pressed, the car was immaculate, I quit doing the chore of washing it long ago.I paid others. Now I realize someone has been behind me, with a pooper scooper cleaningmy “needs”up.
I’m now 54,& I can’t MAKE myself do what I should..like diet,exercise

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009
OLIVER B asked:

I’m off to Thailand in a couple of weeks. Leaving from Manchester on an indirect flight and wil be stopping off in Zurich on the way out and Vienna on the way back. I have travel insurance but i’m not sure if i need an EHIC (formerly E111) card :) sorry wasn’t as clear as i should have been- i was just wondering if i need an EHIC for my very short times in Vienna and Zurich- not Thailand. This is a stop, just to change planes- no stop over.

What unholy amount did it cost for the NY Yankees to “unearth”?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009
Ntmr Fundeh asked:

Their entire stadium to find a Red Sox t-shirt planted by a construction worker?

They found it UNDER CEMENT - which could have been funny in and of itself (who’d want to be buried under cement in NYC?) had the Yanks actually taken it that way. Instead, the team called for an entire influx of workers to find the offending t-shirt by digging up the whole stadium. You’d think they (and this is naught to do with baseball, I don’t even watch it) would have thought to give the money this must have cost to starving children (1 in 4 here in America) or to someone (or ‘ones’) whose insurance will not afford them the life-saving surgery they need. There is a little boy in my area, Mathew Mumbauer, who was paralyzed from the chest down after being pushed down a flight of stairs by bullies at school. Why not give some money to his strapped family, or to programs preventing bullying?

This sort of thing makes me sick. It stinks of bad sportsmanship. What a whole lot of stupidity.

Plane trip and xanax?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009
zeek asked:

So, I’ve flown a lot from america to germany, as some of my family live in germany. yet, after all this 911 stuff and all this talk bout how terrorism isn’t gone yet (which it prolly never will), i’m getting a little anxious for my round trip to germany for the holidays… I’ve only ever been excited about flying in a plane, but now i am kinda scared, but not much. its hard to explain. i heard one of my friends was prescribed xanax on her flight from new jersey to down here in virginia… it helped her alot. i was wondering if i talked to a doc here where i live (at school, 500 miles from ‘home’) about all this and if he’ll prescribe me xanax for the trip… i don’t want my mom knowing, so i kinda want it off of any insurance work. (we’re tight on money right now)… also, can a dermatologist prescribe it? i have a dermo appointment in a month, and maybe i can abolish the need to schedule for ANOTHER doc appointment… thanks..
